Things I love about PCs. Really, for real.
- The start button. If you can’t figure out what else to do, click a button that says “Start.” The only thing easier would be a big red button that said, “If you don’t know what to do, use the mouse, hover over this red button and click it so we can begin.”
- Whatever is driving the file system in Windows is so much faster than the mac. I don’t know why Apple hasn’t figured out how to fix the Finder and make it faster like Window Explorer.
- Customization. With a mac, you’re fairly locked in to what Apple is willing to sell you. The options are endless on the PC side.
- Gaming. PC gaming is still brilliantly better than Mac gaming. Even though Apple is making huge strides, it still falls so far behind the PC world.
- Sync. You want to believe that someday, Apple is going to make this easier. But syncing devices other than Apple branded devices on a Mac still sucks. PCs are so much better.

Great post… thanks for being positive! I applaud you for putting some genuine goodwill into the mix. This should be more common. I’m normally more of a Windows guy but here are a few of the things I admire about Mac:
1. Beautiful design. Let’s face it, Apple knows packaging, and they know sexy. Dell? Not so much.
2. Easy out-of-the-box experience. You can plug in a Mac and be online in minutes. Windows takes a *bit* longer, though not too much. But sometimes minutes count when you’re trying to convince a wife/mother/grandmother that computers are “easy”.
3. Security online. This one is only temporary, I think. Mac users in 2007/2008 are relatively insulated from the viruses and other junk that bugs Windows users all the time. This isn’t really because Mac is so much more superior, but because the Mac community is smaller. As Apple gains market share, hackers will probably start targeting them more. But for now, yes, Macs have fewer viruses.
4. Great handling of audio/video/photos: the iLife suite makes this very easy. Editing video, making coffee table books, or editing music are pretty foolproof on MacOS. There are similar free tools available with Windows Live, but nobody knows about them.
Bottom line: computers are just tools. You can pretty much get the same task done on either a PC or Mac; it’s just that the path to get there is different.
Nice. Starting off the new year with humility. Love it.
