Sanctuary Refresh

In addition to a forthcoming brand spanking new website, I’ve been working on refreshing a lot of Sanctuary’s collateral. Here’s how the stationery is shaping up. You won’t believe how the website is going to look when my man Elliott Munoz gets done working his designer magic.

A lot of other materials are going to get a fresh kiss from the creative department.

Less Clutter. Less Noise.

Less Clutter. Less Noise.
I’ve had the opportunity to read the hotly anticipated book from Kem Meyer that every church communications leader wants to get their hands on. Less Clutter. Less Noise. is the quintessential read for church leaders who want to move beyond bulletins, brochures and bake sales and get to the heart of engaging our churches in thoughtful communication that gets the message through to the people that matter most.

Accessible Theory and Practicality
The book balances healthy measures of theory (why) with even more practical examples and tools (how), that every church communications staff should have in their toolbox. Less Clutter, Less Noise. is written in the same simple style as Kem’s blog. Easily digestible nuggets of wisdom, real-world examples and transparent humor make it accessible for anyone.

Church Communications Team Members:
This is the book you want all your non-communications staff members to read so they can understand your world. You’ll want to read it to strengthen the work you’re already doing.

Pastors and other Church Staff:
This is the book you want to read so you can better understand how a centralized communications department can strengthen your ministry, freeing you up to do what you do best and not take on the burden of getting the message out all on your own.

You can pre-order now from Amazon.

My kids are cute, my wife is beautiful, my photographer is the bomb.

Just before  Christmas we sat down with Philip Hussong at a studio in a warehouse by the river.

We’ve never had any family pictures done before, so it was an adventure. Phil did a great job. You should have him take your picture.

In addition to shooting weddings, sports, and other events, Phil is now partnering with my company, Redwire Creative, to add depth and custom commercial photography to the marketing materials we produce for our clients. He also will spend time with his fingers on the keys writing copy for us.

Check him out at:

and soon to be blogging at theotherjournal.com/

I was ready to give up on community living…

We had an empty house over Christmas break. The Mills family, whom we share our home with, was surprised with a vacation. We had about ten days when the our house was our house again.

Admittedly, I loved it. Every minute of it. The house was quiet. The mood was peaceful. There were no kids battling each other for territory. And we didn’t have to deal with the Inter-family idiosyncratic conflicts that make the melding of two families in one home a cause for exhaustion and temperamental uprisings.

I had lost sight of some of the goals. I gave up on some of the gains of community living and I decided that I didn’t want to keep on keeping on with the struggle of reconciliation. Thankfully, I gave it all up; I decided to trust that God doesn’t want me walking around being a total grump about the situation. I asked for help in making an attitude adjustment.

After our house meeting the other night, some things became clear.

  1. God uses truth to eliminate fear.
  2. Avoidance is a bigger hurdle to reconciliation than enmity.
  3. Grace is sufficient.
  4. We all have a lot to learn, and we’re here to not just move ourselves forward, but to move each other forward.
  5. Living in community does not mean living under the same roof. It means uniting around common ground and extending love across uncommon ground.

Things I love about PCs. Really, for real.

  1. The start button. If you can’t figure out what else to do, click a button that says “Start.” The only thing easier would be a big red button that said, “If you don’t know what to do, use the mouse, hover over this red button and click it so we can begin.”
  2. Whatever is driving the file system in Windows is so much faster than the mac. I don’t know why Apple hasn’t figured out how to fix the Finder and make it faster like Window Explorer.
  3. Customization. With a mac, you’re fairly locked in to what Apple is willing to sell you. The options are endless on the PC side.
  4. Gaming. PC gaming is still brilliantly better than Mac gaming. Even though Apple is making huge strides, it still falls so far behind the PC world.
  5. Sync. You want to believe that someday, Apple is going to make this easier. But syncing devices other than Apple branded devices on a Mac still sucks. PCs are so much better.
